Anyone* can become a Guide!!

 

The only requirements are to be enthusiastic and willing to commit to a minimum of 6 Guided Tours per year. Our comprehensive training course will teach you all you need to know about the Castle - and more!

 

Training

 

Our unique training course is specially designed to take people with little or no previous public speaking experience all the way through to being able to confidently deliver 80 minutes of information to groups visitors.  We will guide and help you to discover the tips and tricks of Guiding.  This will build your confidence and enable you to adapt your tour to suit the weather and constraints on the day.

 

Broken down in to bite-sized chunks, the Castle is ‘taken apart’ in a series of lectures followed by practical guiding sessions.  Everyone gets the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learnt in a fun and informative way!

 

The course comprises approximately 10 lectures, usually delivered at the Castle itself on Wednesday evenings, followed by practical sessions within the grounds of the Castle on Saturday mornings.  A small fee of £10 is charged to each student which covers the cost of the training materials, badge and guiding notes.

 

*Guides must be 18 or over and be able to access all public areas of the Castle.

The whole course lasts about 10 weeks, and culminates in a short written exam and an assessed practical session.  In order to keep the practical assessment objective and fair, we invite a Blue or Green Badge qualified Guide in for the day.

 

What next?
