The Lincoln Castle Guides were formed in 1987, and have grown in to the most active element of the FOLC. Providing free guided tours to visitors almost every day of the year, the Guides certainly know how to bring the Castle to life!!
They operate under a Guiding Service Agreement, as a subdivision of the FOLC, which
ensures all Guides are suitably trained, up-
Every Guide must complete a course of training and pass both a practical and written exam in order to qualify. Once they graduate, they are awarded their Castle Guide badge which allows them to volunteer for one or more tours each month.
Tour sizes range dramatically, although the average tour size is around 18. Guides are trained to lead groups of people of all ages around the most interesting parts of the Castle, and impart historical information in an entertaining and informative way, thus enriching the visitor experience.
Tours usually last around 1hr 30mins, although the exact route will vary depending
on the conditions and limitations on the day. Click here for the latest tour times.
Each Guide will offer a slight variation on what information is given, depending
on their own speciality and the questions they are asked -
